The Parinacota volcano  “lugar de parinas” in Aymara, ownes its name to these graceful birds also known as the ‘Puna Flamingos’. Immediately at the north of Chungara lake is the highest mountain in the region which is part of the Nevados Payachatas, inside the National Park Lauca (biosphere reserve). Due to its height and low technical difficulty, Parinacota is probably the most promoted mountain on the area. It is a classic trip full of mystery and history.
